The Technology Innovation Institute partnered with us to transform the internal environment of its Directed Energy Research Centre (DERC), a space dedicated to the study of electromagnetic and acoustic waves. The challenge was to introduce a human layer into a highly technical setting, using design as a way to spark imagination and balance analytical thinking with creative exploration.

Main Division developed and delivered a series of six large-scale murals, using abstraction to interpret complex scientific phenomena such as electromagnetics, radiation, lasers and frequencies. Through shape, colour, rhythm, and form, the work translated invisible systems into a visual language that could be experienced intuitively within the space.

The result was a fully immersive environment spanning 280 sqm, strengthening a sense of identity and belonging within the lab while reinforcing brand presence through the use of core colours. The intervention elevated the space from purely functional to culturally distinctive, creating an emotional connection for both scientists and visitors, and positioning DERC as a place where science and creativity coexist.
