For its 17th edition the most important cultural festival of Dubai asked us to reinterpret their diverse textile patterns as modern digital abstractions. 

Drawing on textile patterns from the Middle East, South Asia, Africa, and Latin America, it celebrates the historical roots of these traditions through a modern perspective.

Through code using Processing, the patterns are deconstructed, with each colour block drawing pixels that stretch across the screen in a three-dimensional fashion, forming a new, moving art piece that represents the threads behind every textile design.
