TII Murals inside DERC

Client: TII (Tecnology Innovation Institute)
Design and Mural:
Diego Wikander

TII (Technology Innovation Institute) asked us to bring in the power of graffiti and visual arts to enhance the experience inside DERC (Directed Energy Research Centre).

DERC hosts a community of sharp scientists dedicated to study the behaviour of electromagnetic and sound waves inside an extremely secured and clean facility.

But why did they want something so human, like art, inside a place that lives off data, numbers, and rational thinking?

The answer was to have a disruptive element inside the lab, to ignite the imagination of anyone who steps in, as an invitation to embrace creative thinking as much as analytical.

It was this disruptive expectation that gave us complete freedom to use abstractions, patterns and optical illusions to represent the subjects of electromagnetic and acoustic waves, radiation, lasers, and frequencies.

6 murals in total were painted on 280 m2 inside the lab, where successfully, we increased a sense of belonging and an emotional bond with the place while making its walls a one of a kind experience in the world.
